The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has announced the dates for this year’s International Roadcheck – mark your calendars for May 14 to May 16, 2024. As the largest targeted enforcement program on commercial motor vehicles, this annual event aims to enhance safety on our roads by conducting comprehensive inspections on both commercial vehicles and their drivers.

The International Roadcheck spans 72 hours across North America, from May 14 to 16, making it a crucial initiative in bolstering road safety. Law enforcement officers and inspectors will be stationed at various locations, including weigh stations, inspection sites, and on roving patrols, conducting thorough inspections on buses, trucks, and trailers alike

The primary goal of the International Roadcheck is to ensure that commercial vehicles operate safely and comply with both federal and state regulations. Inspections cover a wide range of areas, including driver qualifications, vehicle maintenance, cargo securement, and adherence to hours of service regulations. Inspectors will meticulously examine driver logbooks and other required documents to verify compliance with all regulations.

What will this year’s focus be during the Roadcheck?

This year’s focus areas include tractor protection systems and controlled substance and alcohol possession or use. Tractor protection systems inspections will ensure the brakes and parking brake valve are operating properly, and verify there are no air leaks.

Vehicle maintenance is another critical aspect under scrutiny during the International Roadcheck. Inspectors will meticulously examine tires, lights, and other vital components to ensure they are in optimal condition. Vehicles found with defects will be placed out of service until necessary repairs are completed.

Throughout the International Roadcheck, expect heightened law enforcement presence on the roads, including increased patrols, checkpoints, and roadside inspections. Drivers should be prepared to furnish all required documentation and ensure their vehicles are equipped with updated DOT inspections.
